Kathy Yandell, a native Californian, understands what it takes to have an attractive landscape or indoor living space that is alive with plants and flowers. She began her career in 1975 in the retail nursery trade at Adachi Nursery in Orange County. It is here Kathy began developing her acute knowledge in ornamental planting and discovered her life work and passion.
Progressing on through the formative years of her profession, she took and passed the comprehensive California Certified Nursery Professional exam (CCN Pro). Achieving this California Certified Nurseryman Certificate boldly declares that she is a highly competent horticultural specialist with skills not only in plant recognition and maintenance but also insect management and landscaping.
In 1978 Kathy moved on to the prestigious Crest Garden Center in Palos Verdes. It is here that she gained her vast knowledge in color, hanging baskets and container planting. While working with clients at their homes, Kathy developed her unique talent for designing with color. She also installs and maintains interior plants.
In the following years, Kathy left retail and worked as a sales representative for a wholesale nursery specializing in color plants. As her client base was ever expanding, she knew that it was time to begin her own venture and Inner Gardens was born in 1979.
As a testament to her exemplary work Kathy Yandell was published in Sunset’s Container Gardening Book in 1996. Her inspirational designs are a perfect match for the needs of the Southern California resident as Kathy truly understands the climate and landscape constraints of the locale.
Kathy believes that life is an ever-learning experience. She is a past student of UCLA’s landscape architecture program and travels to Europe to enhance her knowledge in a wide-variety of colorscaping and landscaping ideologies.
The process begins by scheduling a consultation to see the property for a site analysis. Information is gathered on the client’s needs and desires, what colors they’d like to see, what problems need to be solved and what areas need enhancement. We’ll determine if they want to care for the garden themselves and just call us in for the seasonal replant or use our service to keep the garden looking healthy and colorful all season. We’ll discuss their watering habits and if there’s a need for an automatic drip water system. An estimate and a working budget will be made and if the quote is acceptable a deposit will be taken and the work scheduled. All fees are due the day the job is complete.
If the client desires Inner Gardens to do maintenance, we have weekly or bi-weekly schedules. The plants will be deadheaded and trimmed, weeds pulled, and watering is done, if necessary. For our ongoing clients we bill at the end of the month for materials left and services rendered.
Inner Gardens also provides plants and containers for interiors. Suggestions will be made at the initial consultation as to where plants would thrive and enhance the environment. We can bring in new or just maintain existing plants. Self watering containers are available and are amazing for increased plant health and size. We can provide weekly or bi-weekly maintenance. Our service includes watering as needed, trimming, cleaning leaves and fertilizing.
